Gillian Leigh Bowling, John Duncan, Elena M. Rosa Lavita

The collaborative trio of Gillian Leigh Bowling, John Duncan and Elena M. Rosa Lavita began with their recording of the album Nightfall (ETD0047). Nightfall is a project dedicated to the darkness of night and was recorded remotely and mixed in Bologna, Italy at Pieve del Pino by John Duncan in 2021.

John Duncan has operated for decades at the cutting edge of performance, video, experimental music, installation, pirate radio and television. His offerings in the worlds of art and music require no introduction. Though classically trained in violin, flute and self-educated in piano, Gillian Leigh Bowling provides analog synthesis in the trio with a sense of minimalism and harmony from a theatrical and film scoring perspective and consideration. Elena M. Rosa Lavita’s approach to music is one of a visual artist who is familiar with textures and a ‘sound-as-art’ intention while weaving repetition and structure into the equation. With Lavita on bass guitar and Bowling on analog synths, and the final touches of Duncan providing his mysterious haiku-like lyrics and glitched out electronics, this collaborative trio breaks genres with their sound and unstructured improvisational style. Their pieces are long, grinding, trance-like, often hallucinogenic and mind-altering by means of magickal and alchemical transmutation and transgression. Nightfall is not a light-hearted recording between three individuals but rather a seance performed by potion conscious sonic witches.
